Advice Case Study # 3 "Stairway To Heaven'
Advice Case Study # 3
I know nothing, and just wanted to learn how
to play guitar for fun.
I remember when I met Irene at in 1970, at the record shop, where we were both holding copies of Led Zeppelin 4 at the counter. I remember remarking on her amazing flared jeans, and she loved my waist length hair.
"Have you heard this cool song Stairway to heaven" she asked me. "The singer looks so cool, and that song makes me go all dreamy, like wow, man"
Knowing I bore a passing resemblance to Robert Plant, I thought I was in with a chance, and thus started a long romance with both Irene and acoustic guitar music. Today all that's left of my hair is a few strands, but I still love the guitar, and now that the kids are grown I want to start up.
I don't want any old crummy cheap guitar, and the nice young salesperson, Aron suggested a lovely Maton M225 solid top, made in Australia. He played the first notes of Stairway to heaven, and I was sold. The Maton sounded as good as many more expensive guitars, and Aron said it played beautifully.
Apparently, being made with a top of solid spruce means that it will grow old nicely, like me, maturing with age. The neck is as good as on the expensive Maton guitars, with a solid feel, that really reeks of quality. I tried lot's of imported far eastern guitars and there was no comparison.
Though the Maton is finished very basically, the sound and quality shone through. The Maton M225 has: A solid top for better tone.Fantastic, easy to play neck.Ply Queensland Maple back, sides and neck.
Made in Australia.Huge warm tone, great for blues, folk, pop, anything.
Conclusion: If you can find a better acoustic guitar for under $900, buy it. What I really, really want is a Gibson! The Songwriter is a ripper. At $3399 it is one of the best ever. Imagine playing 'Stairway' on this!
